There are so many amazing wedding venues in the NJ and NY area, but one of our absolute favorites here at SCE Event Group is the stunning and impeccable Pleasantdale Château in West Orange, New Jersey!
Here’s what Jason Jani, the founder of the SCE Event Group, has to say about hosting events at the Pleasantdale Château, “This location is truly one of a kind and I am grateful to be one of the preferred professional resources for the team at the PDC. Just awesome!”
And being listed as a Preferred Professional on their website, has allowed us at SCE Event Group to develop close professional relationships with the incredible in-house event and catering staff at the Château; which will ensure that your wedding will be as magnificent as possible, and as awe-inspiring as you’ve always hoped it would be!
The History of the Pleasantdale Château
The Pleasantdale Château was once the private residence of industrial magnate Charles Walter Nichols, who called the Château home from 1912 until his passing in 1959. But in fact the history of the estate goes back much further, as the farms and some portions of the Château date all the way back to 1835, which was the time of Andrew Jackson’s presidency and was 30 years prior to the Civil War. Incredible!
In fact the estate as it is today encompasses a great number of adjoining Dutch NJ farms which were purchased by Charles Walter Nichols, and then subsequently united into the stunning forty acres of gardens, woodlands, meadows, ponds and architecture that you now see when you visit the Château.
Weddings at the Pleasantdale Château
The classically-designed, richly paneled Grand Ballroom will inspire awe with its immense vaulted ceiling which spans the rotunda before reaching sublime heights, highlighted by the centerpiece of the space which is a marvelous and awe inspiring glass dome. But, while the ballroom is grand, the details and ambience of the room allow for even a large 350 guest reception feel intimate.
But, if that’s not enough to convince you to host your wedding at the Château, a visit to the Mediterranean-style Fountain Room with its richly-colored tiles, or the lush, exotic and impressive conservatory and botanical garden called the Orangerie, or the picturesque indoor pool with gleaming mosaic pillars and stunning glass ceiling, might do the trick!
And, we have barely touched on the incredible natural beauty of the grounds themselves, including formal gardens, expansive manicured grounds, ponds, walking bridges, and charming gazebos.
Looking towards the Future
At Pleasantdale Château, wherever possible, their groundskeeping and landscaping uses low-impact environmentally-conscious practices. They pride themselves on acting as stewards of the land, and hope to preserve the woodlands filled with hundreds of old-growth trees and indigenous shrubbery, as well as the ponds and meadows for future generations.
Beyond these preservation efforts, they also operate a fully-functioning farm on the estate (est. 1835) that provides an impressive abundance of naturally-grown,super-local, fresh ingredients for their kitchen and catering department.
